A couple of years back, we had the distinct pleasure of leading a trip to Ladakh that focused on its contributions to the Silk Road. When we weren't climbing rocks to reach the cave paintings of Saspol or waiting patiently for monks to dissolve a sand mandala in Wanla, we'd enjoy the warm hospitality of Stok's Highland Heritage resort. And, every morning at sunrise, a matter-of-fact-Mainer named Susan would leave her cabin and slowly walk up to the dining room with a bag of drinking chocolate. When she reached us, our host, Rinchen, would ask, "Susan-ley, tea? Coffee? and she'd respond, deadpan: "I worship at the feet of the goddess mocha," and set to mixing chocolate into hot milk and Rinchen's Nescafé crystals.
The colors in these 14" x 16" pillows remind me of those mornings in Stok with susan. Cocoa brown, twilight blue and purple seep into the sunny coral, apricot, and pink silk charmeuse. Backed in heirloom Indian silk dupiani. Sold in pairs.
